UX Project: FITNESS 101
OVERVIEW
An app for people just starting out in their fitness journey that are lacking in information on what to do and what to eat, and finding the proper things to do for your specific body type. The idea for this app came to me when I was thinking about how clueless I was then I started working out, and more importantly, how much I would've struggled with it if I hadn't had people around me who were already experienced to guide me. I wanted to create something for the people who don't have that so they can learn and also connect with others on their journey.
RESEARCH

My first step was to look online to see if this is even something other people struggle with besides just myself. I googled to look for blogposts relating to people's experience first starting out in fitness and saw a reddit thread about what people wish they knew when they first started working out.

MAIN PAINPOINT: People just starting out are lacking in information on what to do, what to eat, and what the proper things to do are for their specific body type

Competitive Analysis

STRONG

MYFITNESSPAL

JEFIT

CHRONOMETER
My second step was to research other apps that address the pain points I had personally as well as the ones I noticed the most from my research. While pinpointing things they did right and things that I should avoid on my app

WORKOUT

Strong:
Problem: keeping track of workouts can be tough, this app makes it way easier

This is for: Workout veterans and gym heads trying to keep track of workouts, its for people who already have the knowledge just need to keep track of it.

Solution: Easy to add workouts, easy to find proper form for workouts because of diagrams, easy to keep track of progress, send good vibes once you complete workout with the “congrats!” with the stars around it, tons of workouts to add quick, it makes it easy to list out and keep track of your workouts. The design is simple and really easy to use.

Jefit:
Problem: keeping track of workouts can be tough
For : Anyone who wants to workout

Solution: Incredible app, has rest timer, pic and vid of workouts, questionnaire at beginning to understand fitness goals, quick enough to not be annoying, the look and feel is clunky it feels like bad UI. Has social media element to it, lets me learn what workouts to use, had an at home workout as well, workout alarm, reminder, progress reports

NUTRITIONAL:

Chronometer:

Problem: It's difficult to keep track of what you're eating and how much you're burning with exercise, especially when you're macro counting

Solution: Super complex, super in depth, a bit overwhelming for a newbie like me, but if you’re really experienced with counting macros, etc. and monitoring what food enter your body this is perfect for you, seamless and simple design as well. You can also import recipes which is really cool.
Food + exercise + calories remaining

MyFitnessPal:

Problem: It's difficult to keep track of what you're eating and how much you're burning with exercise, especially when you're macro counting. Also makes it easier to find good, heathy recipes.

Solution: Much much simpler than chronometer with the same idea but more for the common man. Recipe ideas that extremely specific and look delicious too.

Main Takeaways:
workout apps rarely take the food part into account but maybe that’s because it should be two different apps, but I didn't see an app that covers both while making it seamless to move through and easy to use.
